World Mental Health Day

On October 10, people around the world observe World Mental Health Day to raise awareness of the importance of promoting good mental health. Right now, there is an increased need for mental health services as people face new challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s World Mental Health Day seeks to promote an even greater awareness of and investment in mental health.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is one of the most neglected areas of public health, and statistically, even more so in rural areas.

A focus on mental health is needed now more than ever, and it is important for us to recognize that workplace health and safety includes mental health. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, on any given week, 500,000 Canadians are unable to work due to mental illnesses.

UFA believes that mental health promotion belongs to all of us. It’s why we partner with organizations like the Do More Ag Foundation who have resources and campaigns like Talk. Ask. Listen., aimed at sharing mental health education with Canadian producers. Today it was announced that applications for the Do More Ag Community Fund for 2021 Mental Health Education, are now open. Learn more about about organizing a Mental Health course in your community by visiting the Community Fund page on the Do More Ag website.

Your mental health starts with you, and it is just as important as any other health-related matter in life. This World Mental Health Day, and every day, we encourage you to check in with your friends and family and take care of your mental health. There is no health, without mental health.
