Grain Storage & Handling Update | Go Beyond the Grain Bag
Grain bags do more than pull their weight on the farm. They protect your grain, give you flexibility at harvest and help when bin space is tight. But their job doesn't have to end there.
Grain bags, including Ag Flex grain bags available through UFA, can be recycled through the 'Alberta Ag-Plastic. Recycle It!' program, a provincially funded, multi-year pilot led by the Agricultural Plastics Recycling Group and operated by Cleanfarms. Once collected, bags are sent to Alberta-based recyclers and turned into plastic pellets, which are used to make new products like agricultural silage film.
Recycling grain bags just makes sense by keeping that plastic in use and out of landfills. Every year, thousands of tonnes are collected at Cleanfarms collection sites across the prairies and made into new products.
Don't let them go to waste, drop off your used grain bags at a Cleanfarms collection site and put that plastic back to work (find your nearest collection site here).
