The Government of Alberta is currently seeking feedback on a proposal that could significantly change how fuel is taxed and sold in our province. As part of this engagement, UFA employees and petroleum agents are encouraged to participate in a Marked Fuel Engagement Survey and to actively encourage our members to do the same.
What's Changing?
The proposal would eliminate the use of physical dye in fuel sold under the Alberta Farm Fuel Benefit (AFFB) and Tax-Exempt Fuel User (TEFU) programs. The reduced tax rate on such fuel would remain unchanged, and it would only be the physical dye that would be eliminated. Instead, eligible consumers would purchase clear fuel at AFFB and TEFU tax rates, provided it's used for approved agricultural or commercial purposes.
This change would:
- Remove the need for dyed fuel
- Apply the reduced tax rate to clear fuel
- • Introduce new controls to ensure proper use
Who's Eligible?
- Agricultural producers with an active AFFB registration
- Individuals or businesses with a valid TEFU exemption certificate
Your Feedback Matters
This change could impact how you purchase and use fuel in your operation. Whether you're a producer, a fuel seller, or a commercial user, your input will help shape the future of fuel tax policy in Alberta.
