UFA volunteers help drivers keep on truckin’, safely.

UFA volunteers joined AMTA and other industry partners, sponsors and volunteers yesterday for an important cause. The volunteers safely gathered at the Calgary Stampede Grandstand to assemble 25,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits for commercial truck drivers who continue to haul and deliver essential goods throughout our province and beyond.

Through combined efforts and the generosity of AMTA, BMO, Women in Supply Chain, UFA, The Gear Centre and others, the non-surgical masks and gloves for these kits were procured and the organizing team was  diligent in preparing for following all social distancing and sanitation guidelines.

"This event has truly been a group effort, coming together quickly thanks to the efforts of all involved. We all know drivers are essential to our supply chain and although they have been hauling throughout the COVID-19 pandemic for weeks now, we need to continue to support them, and most importantly keep them safe," says Chris Nash, president of the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA).

"We are so grateful for the opportunity to give back to the drivers who continue to log miles so that we can continue to do our jobs," says Don Smith, Vice President Petroleum, UFA. "The farmers and ranchers we serve rely on essential supplies to get their jobs done and this was just one way for us to say thank you to the drivers who keep us all moving forward."

Through the kind co-operation of Alberta Sheriffs, the PPE kits will be available for free at six Alberta weigh scales and provided to all drivers, regardless of their employer.

Without drivers, goods and medical supplies would not get to where they are needed. Thank you to those on our roads who are keeping things moving. Stay safe out there.
